Dear NCSPP Colleagues,
The 2020 Mid-Winter Conference Planning Committee is excited to announce that registration will be opening soon! In the meantime, we wanted to share a few bits of information and recommendations to assist you as you make plans to join us in Carlsbad, California from January 20th to 24th.
We will be convening at the Westin Carlsbad Resort & Spa located at 5480 Grand Pacific Dr, Carlsbad, CA 92008. A link will be provided to you in the registration portal to make your hotel reservation. Using the link will ensure that resort fees and self-parking fees are waived for all registered attendees. Please do not register directly with the hotel.
Among the many amenities available, the hotel offers free morning yoga classes daily as well as workout clothing that can be rented for $5. In addition, the hotel spa will be offering special discounts on services for NCSPP attendees. There is also a free shuttle to any location within a 5-mile radius of the hotel. The beach and Legoland are nearby as well!
As you make travel arrangements, we would also like to offer a few recommendations for making your trip a bit easier. Rush hour in the area extends roughly from 7am to 10am, and 3pm to 7pm, which can significantly impact the time to commute from the airport to the hotel and vice versa. Travel time without traffic ranges from 35-45 minutes but can take 1.5 hours or more during rush hours. Lyft/Uber and various shuttle services are available at the airport. If you’re able to coordinate arrival times with friends/colleagues, ride sharing is a great option. More passengers=lower fares/person and a little more time to catch up while you ride! We found that on a Friday morning with three riders, the fare averaged about $37/person. We also learned that taxis were significantly more expensive than ride-sharing and shuttle options.
As you may be aware, in addition to keynotes and CE workshop sessions, the 2020 Mid-Winter Conference agenda includes time for intensive workgroups focusing on the social responsiveness within the Profession-Wide Competencies. More detailed information regarding structure and participation in the workgroups will be coming soon.
We are excited to see you all in Carlsbad!!!
Warm Regards,
Your Conference Planning Committee (Kelli Johnson, Terri Davis, Brenda Nash)
